If you have coeliac disease or a milk allergy, buying a treat often means reading every label, asking questions and sometimes going without.
We want to make that easier. This page explains exactly how we make our gluten-free and vegan brownies, which ones are right for you, and where the limits are. We’d always rather be honest with you than tell you what you want to hear.
Our free-from brownies at a glance
We make two free-from ranges: gluten-free brownies and vegan brownies. Each range is free from one allergen, not both, so please check which is right for you.

How we bake our free-from brownies
Our gluten-free and vegan brownies are baked in the same bakery as the rest of our range, so we’ve built our whole day around keeping them safe.
- One free-from range per day. On any given day, we bake either gluten-free brownies or vegan brownies, never both.
- A full clean-down the day before. At the end of the previous day’s baking, the whole area is thoroughly cleaned.
- A second clean-down that morning. Before we start, we clean everything again.
- Free-from bakes come first. Our gluten-free or vegan brownies are always the first thing we bake that day, before any other ingredients come out.
- Packed and labelled straight away. Once baked, they’re wrapped and labelled before anything else is made
If you have coeliac disease
Our gluten-free brownies are made with no gluten-containing ingredients, using the process above.
We do use wheat flour in our bakery on other days and later in the day, in the same area. Our clean-downs and early-morning baking are there to control that risk. If you’re extremely sensitive, or you’d like to know more before ordering, please get in touch and we’ll talk you through it.
Our vegan brownies and the rest of our range contain wheat, so they’re not suitable for people with coeliac disease.
If you have a milk allergy
Our vegan brownies are made without milk, butter, cream or any other animal products, using dairy-free chocolate.
However, milk is used in our bakery every day, including in the same area later that day. Even with our clean-downs, we can’t guarantee our vegan brownies are completely free from traces of milk. If you have a severe milk allergy, please contact us before ordering so you can make an informed decision.
Our gluten-free brownies contain milk, so they’re not suitable for anyone with a milk allergy.
If you're lactose intolerant or vegan
Lactose intolerance is different from a milk allergy: it’s a problem digesting the sugar in milk, not an immune reaction. Our vegan brownies contain no dairy ingredients, so they’re a good choice for most people avoiding lactose. If you’re unsure how much dairy you can manage, check with your GP or dietitian.
If you’re vegan, our vegan brownies contain no animal products at all.
Coeliac disease and milk allergy: what's the difference?
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition. When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, found in wheat, barley and rye, their immune system damages the lining of the gut. Even small amounts can cause symptoms, which is why how food is made matters as much as the recipe.
A milk allergy is an immune reaction to the proteins in milk. Reactions can range from mild to severe, including anaphylaxis, and even traces can trigger one.
Gift boxes and buying for someone else
Our mixed gift boxes contain brownies with both wheat and milk, so they’re not suitable for people with coeliac disease or a milk allergy. Gluten Free Box Vegan Box
If you’re buying for someone with coeliac disease or a milk allergy, please choose from the right range above, or get in touch and tell us who it’s for. We’ll help you pick something suitable.
How to check before you buy
We’re a small team and we bake every brownie ourselves, so we can tell you exactly how it was made. Please ask us anything before you order.

If you have a reaction
If you or someone you’re with shows signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat or tongue, or collapse, call 999 immediately and use an adrenaline auto-injector if one has been prescribed.
If you think you’ve reacted to one of our products, please let us know too, so we can look into it.
